Behind the neo-Gothic façade of this national cultural monument lies a space where the aristocratic past blends with the subtlety of a modern scenographic approach. The chateau, whose history dates back to the 13th century, has been sensitively reconstructed and transformed into a concept unparalleled in Europe – each suite is a tribute to art and stories: it was inspired by originals from the Regional Gallery of the Highlands, replicas of which can be found in the interior of the chateau hotel.

Top wines and spa
Guests enter a world that is all about the details – from the pillow menu, which has been created with scientific precision, to the admirable collection of Bordeaux wines, to the selection of wellness rituals at Spa by L’Occitane, which was the first in Central Europe to find its home here. After all – when you’re selected by CNN Travel as one of the fifteen best chateau hotels in the world, it means something. Chateau Herálec has become synonymous with relaxing holidays: Tripadvisor has repeatedly ranked it among the most popular hotels in the Czech Republic. The hotel has also won an award from National Geographic Traveller.

The wellness area abounds in harmony and elegance – from the herbal saunas to the whirlpool nestled in the turreted space of the old bastion. And a real, deep silence that you rarely find anywhere these days.
A taste of aristocracy
The gastronomic concept of Chateau Herálec is based on honesty and invention. The cuisine is based on seasonal, regional ingredients in their full natural state – many of which the chateau grows itself. Beds of aromatic herbs, fresh potatoes from its own fields, vegetables picked at the foot of the park. A context in which food becomes a ritual.

Dining in the oldest parts of the chateau – whether in the refined dining room of the Lady of Šelmberk or in the Tower Lounge – appeals to all the senses. The emphasis on authentic flavours, coupled with the refined presentation and hand-blown glass in the Murano design style, makes every course a small celebration of culture. And if you’re a wine lover, Bishop Jan’s wine cellar will lead you to one of the largest collections of Bordeaux in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
A time of blooming parks
Late spring and summer in Herálc have a flavour of meditative contemplation. The 18th-century English park lets you lose yourself among the centuries-old trees, while the chateau’s flowerbeds are bursting with colour and fragrance. In the silence of St Anne’s Chapel you will find space for inner conversation, as well as in the Silencarium or during a slow walk along the path called the Miraculous Journey through the park.

Rooms in pictures
Each of the nineteen chateau rooms is original – not only in its layout, but also in its artistic style. Inspired by specific paintings from the Regional Gallery of Vysočina, they bear the names and artistic atmosphere of famous works, whose replicas are reflected in the design of the furniture and interior colours. In each room, therefore, a different story, a different mood awaits the guest.
In the White Horse room, you will immerse yourself in the melancholic landscape of Jan Preisler, while in the Oak Grove room you will be surrounded by the red tones of late autumn as interpreted by Josef Ullman. You will discover the atmosphere of mystery at the end of the journey in the Autumn in the Park room – Jan Honsa has played a masterful landscape game not only here.

The New Forest room is also impressive, inspired by Antonín Chittussi’s fine landscape painting, which brings a sense of light, calm and the changing sky of the Highlands into the interior. No two stories here are the same, just as no two visits are the same.
Every guest in the castle hotel experiences not only luxury and comfort, but above all a dialogue with a space that is at once a gallery, a refuge and a mirror of one’s own emotions. It is an authentic scene that can be surprising and addictive at the same time.
